The Nappanee Leadership Academy
“Leaders are made, not born.
Learning to lead is a lot easier than most of us think it is,
because each of us contains the capacity for leadership.”
--Warren Bennis
The Nappanee Leadership Academy is an
exciting program sponsored by the Nappanee Public Library and the
Nappanee Area Chamber of Commerce. Through a series of
thought-provoking program days, participants prepare themselves to
assume leadership roles in our community.
The mission of the Academy is to develop
the capacity and commitment of people to recognize, understand and
respond to their community’s needs through civic, education, skill
building, and service.
“Our goal is to encourage those who
want to become active in community life, to equip them with
knowledge of people, places, and community issues, and then link
them with other community leaders.”
The primary objectives of the program
are to develop leadership skills and learn how the community works.
Through group projects that develop over the course of 9 months,
leadership participants learn the dynamics of making things happen.
Sessions include leadership development exercises and community
education. Participants meet the Mayor,
School Superintendent, Legislators, and many other community leaders who serve as
presenters on program days.
